The Imagination Stack: the missing skills for an age of AI

Written Essay for the Existential Hope in Practice series from the Foresight Institute

I was invited by the Foresight Institute to write an article about my research interests in a very accessible and practical form. This is part of the institute’s initiative called existential hope. The description of the Existential Hope in Practice series is:

The purpose of this writing initiative is to help translate serious work into ideas that can travel, so ideas that clarify what existential hope actually looks like in practice, and what it would take to realize it in a world full of real risks, constraints, and trade-offs.

This was an excellent opportunity for me, because I got to crystallize a lot of current thoughts I’ve had over the past few months on creativity, imagination, and open-endedness. The essay can be accessed here: The Imagination Stack: the missing skills for an age of AI
